CJ Dropshipping is free to join, charges you for products and shipping per order, and the recurring complaints from merchants concern processing delays, stock that shows available but is not, tracking, and agent quality rather than the price of joining. Its Shopify listing shows 4.9 stars from 2,856 reviews, but Trustpilot has withdrawn CJ’s TrustScore after removing fake reviews, so star counts alone are not reliable evidence. Order a sample and place a test order before you list anything.
This page is a synthesis of other people’s reports; it does not claim any testing of our own. CJ’s own website blocked our automated reads, so we quote no CJ-stated prices or delivery times.
What it costs
The Shopify listing says the app is free to install and that additional service fees apply per order (listing, 29 Sept 2026). The independent eDesk review describes the same model: no monthly fee or minimum orders, payment for products and shipping, optional paid extras such as custom packaging and photography, and a tiered membership based on spending history (eDesk, updated 31 July 2026). Product cost, shipping cost and any extras vary per item and destination; use CJ’s own shipping calculator in your account, and feed the result into the break-even ROAS worked example.
What the sources report
| Source | What it shows | Caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify App Store listing | 4.9 stars, 2,856 reviews; 96 percent five-star | Vendor-solicited reviews are self-selected |
| Same listing, 1-star filter | 65 one-star reviews (2 percent) | We read the 1-star page only, not every review |
| Trustpilot | 13,461 reviews, 96 percent five-star; TrustScore unavailable for breach of Trustpilot guidelines after fake reviews were removed | Score withdrawn, so the mix cannot be taken at face value |
| eDesk independent review | Three recurring complaints: shipping time inconsistency, unreliable agent communication, express shipping costs that erase the margin on cheap products | No personal testing claimed; last updated 31 July 2026 |
Problems that appear in more than one place
- Processing and shipping delays. The 1-star reviews on the Shopify listing mention orders held for long periods (some over 18 days). One detailed Trustpilot review describes the advertised “4 to 7 day” shipping and orders still unpacked ten days after purchase. eDesk says processing delays and peak-season congestion, such as Chinese New Year and big sale events, still happen.
- Inventory not matching. Listing reviewers report items shown as available then out of stock, causing failed orders and refunds. A Trustpilot reviewer reported stock discrepancies and wrong items shipped after spending about 30,000 USD, self-reported and unverified.
- Tracking. Reviewers report inaccurate or missing tracking numbers and orders marked shipped without confirmed delivery.
- Support and agents. Praise for individual sourcing agents appears on Trustpilot and the listing; complaints describe slow or inconsistent replies and unresponsive agents. The agent model means your experience may depend on the person assigned.
- Fees and price changes. Some 1-star reviewers report unexpected charges and price increases after agreement. We could not check these against CJ’s terms.
What we cannot say
We cannot say how often these problems occur. A 2 percent share of 1-star reviews on a listing and a suppressed Trustpilot score are not a failure rate. Complaints do not prove fault: some concern agent management or account access, not fulfilment.
Protect yourself
- Order a sample to your own address and record processing and delivery days: the sampling and QC checklist.
- State realistic delivery ranges on your product page, using your sample, not CJ’s advertised days.
- Track stock: see inventory sync and overselling.
- Keep records for disputes: chargeback evidence by reason. Delivery delays feed “product not received” disputes.
- Ask about warehouse locations: since 29 Aug 2025 duty applies to goods shipped direct from China to the US; see US de minimis.

It is a large, established supplier with thousands of merchant reviews and a Shopify listing, and it also has recurring complaints about delays and stock accuracy. Whether it suits you depends on your tolerance for those and on your sample orders.
Does CJ have a Shopify app fee?
The listing says free to install with per-order service fees.
